行政院長賴清德13日接見國際青年商會中華民國總會主辦的「中華民國第55屆十大傑出青年當選人」，但「企業、創業及經濟發展類」當選人林之晨建議，政府若想成功推動「新南向政策」，勢必要加強英語教育，並將英文列為第二官方語言。民進黨立委吳思瑤也在總質詢時建議賴清德把英語列為第二官方語言。
「AppWorks之初創投」創始合夥人林之晨，當著賴清德語教育部長潘文忠的面說，他7年前從美國回台創業，發現台灣最缺憾的是，英文教育做得太失敗，很多人花了許多時間學英文，卻連聽跟講的能力都沒有，因此英語列為第二官方語言，「是必須要做的事情」。
林之晨指出，他參加玉山論壇時發現，台上講者說英文、台下每個人卻都戴著耳機，讓翻譯把英文翻成中文，同時新聞報導出來，英翻中文內容也錯的；林之晨憂心，若未來30年要發展新南向，連英文都聽不懂、翻譯也翻不好，新南向政策恐難成功。
另一方面，吳思瑤在立院質詢，賴清德在台南市長任內，曾宣示要用10年時間，來把英語變成台南第二官方語言，現在擔任行政院長是否會持續推動？賴清德則回應，英語成為第二官方語言，由城市推動和國家要來推動並不一樣，他建議可在教育部內先成立英文成為官方語言的推動委員會，先進行研究、調查。
2018年元旦即將實施全募兵制，但近來國軍的戰力卻出現嚴重缺口，由於募兵的成效不如預期，許多軍人也忙著投入招募人才的行列。最近有網友就在PTT上貼出一張照片，拍攝地點疑似在成功嶺，照片中捕捉到一名女士官相貌白皙清秀，立即引爆網友熱議，有人更直呼「想簽下去了！」

根據這名網友在PTT的發文可見，照片中一名女士官不僅白皙清秀，身上還穿著筆挺的軍服，專注的神情望向前方，靈氣逼人，讓許多網友看了為之瘋狂，紛紛稱她為「超正女士官」，並表示「看到她就想毫不可慮的簽下去」、「這在軍中絕對是極品水準」、「好想給她愛的教育喔！」「看到這顏值，連我也想簽了」、「第一次這麼想當兵」。
不過也有網友冷靜分析，營區內怎麼可能拍照？疑似是為了推廣募兵，才使出美人計來吸引男性青年從軍。網友紛紛表示，「大家冷靜！簽下去你就再也看不到她了」、「看來這是為了募兵而打出的美女牌？」「國防部現在有經費找人來當臨演喔？」「放心吧！就算簽到死，也不會是你的」、「都是長官的，輪得到你？」
